Submission Information

This is a general FYI for our submissions guidelines, and currently open submission calls.

General Submission Requirements

Anthologies

These are some of the rules of thumb for submitting for one of our anthologies. NOTE that this may vary from anthology to anthology, and you should take note of any specific guidelines the editor of the book for which you’re submitting has included.

Sexual themes and violence are okay if they’re required by the story, but gratuity will disadvantage you.

Most of our anthologies are crowdfunded. We use Indiegogo. Payment will vary from book to book, but you will most likely be expected to do some promoting work for the crowdfunding. It won’t be mandatory, but we are far more likely to continue working with authors who are willing to help out in that regard.

Suggested word count depends on the anthology in question. If you’re going to break it, make sure you do it exceptionally well.

Please submit stories as a .doc, .odt, or .rtf file to solarwyrm@gmail.com. Ideally 12 point with a clean font (Times, Calibri, Ariel, or something similar) and 1.5 spacing.

The author will retain copyright of the work. Solarwyrm Press requests first print and digital publication rights, exclusive for 3 months from publication. After that, the author is free to accept publication elsewhere, post the story to their blog, or anything else. Reprints are not usually accepted, but again this will vary depending on the book in question.

Stories may be edited for minor spelling, grammar, or formatting issues. Stories with major spelling and grammar issues will be rejected.

Books

We are not currently actively seeking books for publication, but you may send queries to solarwyrm@gmail.com if you wish. We make no promises though about how long it will take to get back to you. So be aware that it could be quite a while.

  1. I’d like to submit a story, but I do have a question. With the theme Fire and Ice, should the story feature both, or just one of those elements sufficient?
    Thanks!

    • Hi. Yes, I’m pretty loose with my interpretations – some of my favourite stories are ones that have brought something very new to the theme. So, if you can remotely justify it to the theme, I’ll be willing to give it a read. 🙂 — Jax

  2. How soon will you start reading for “The Rising Dawn?” Is it too early to submit? I have a story that you might like for that one.

    • Submissions for The Rising Dawn are open, so feel free to submit. I usually get back to people about a week or so after the deadline closes. 🙂
